Volunteer group accompanies shelter canines in the community for exposure

When I interviewed Daniel last month, we talked about helping dogs in need. He told me about all the amazing things he does to make sure canines have a voice. I knew Daniel worked with rescue groups like SAFPAW and Dogs Deserve Better Nashville, but I wasn’t aware that he also started a Facebook group called Walk Adoptable Dogs Nashville. The organization is made up of Nashville area local residents who want to take out shelter dogs so they are seen, learn how to walk well in public and hopefully get adopted. Each pooch wears an Adopt Me vest and the volunteer is given info on that pup so they can answer any questions from potential adopters.

When Daniel asked me to join him & volunteer Christianna to walk some rescue dogs, I jumped at the chance. What could be better than taking out some canines on a beautiful day and try to get them adopted?

Daniel, Christianna and I decided to meet up in The Gulch, a busy neighborhood in Nashville, TN. It’s a great area and it seems like residents and visitors are always in good spirits. Daniel brought Rudy, a five year old, male pitbull mix from RARE Rescue. Christianna brought Jack, a two year old, male Australian shepherd, and Charliee, a four year old, female Australian shepherd, from Roscoe Resuces.

I thought the dogs would be sweet, but I was surprised at how loving they were. As soon as I met Rudy, Charlee and Jack, I was greeted with lots of kisses. They were beautiful dogs, and all I could think was “why are these dogs not in their forever homes?” I spent the next hour with Daniel and Christianna taking pictures near the numerous murals in The Gulch.

After taking some pictures, it was time to meet some people. And boy, did people love Rudy, Jack and Charlee! It seemed like every step we took, people surrounded us and gave each dog a kiss and hug. I was surprised at how dog friendly everyone was. We definitely picked the best place to get these dogs exposure, that’s for sure.

What an awesome day! Not only for Jack, Charlee and Rudy, but for everyone that came in contact with these amazing dogs, including me, Daniel and Christianna. I really enjoyed my time with Jack, Charliee and Rudy and look forward to my next Walk Adoptable Dogs Nashville outing.

The best part of the excursion actually happened a few days later. I got an email from a couple who had bonded with Rudy and was actually interested in adopting him! Isn’t that incredible? They were a sweet couple, and I knew how much they loved Rudy and how much Rudy adored them. I hope everything works out for them, and Rudy finally gets his forever home. He was such a wonderful dog and only deserves the best. They all do.
