Holiday Dog Adoption Update with Emily, Jake & Moose

Lots of dogs like Moose were adopted during the holidays. Let’s check in on him and see how he’s doing now.

I was recently searching the Nashville Humane Association’s Facebook page and thinking about all the dogs that were adopted during the hoildays. I remember back in December, going on the website and seeing all the happy dogs with their new families. Not just one dog, but so so many. It made my heart very happy to know those dogs had new homes and wouldn’t have to spend the holidays in the shelter. But here we are, months after December, and I was wondering how those dogs are doing now. Were they still happy? Did everything work out? Was it a good transition or were there some hurdles for the dogs and their new families? I was curious and had to find out.

Since I volunteer at NHA, I emailed them to see if they could give me contact information for one of the families that adopted a dog during the holidays. They recommended I write a Facebook post to see if I could find someone to talk to. So I did and I was happy to see a reply from Emily, who wrote about her sweet dog Moose.

I quickly contacted Emily and she gave me her phone number. I could tell right away she was a big dog lover and had a lot of love for Moose. I called Emily and we arranged a time to meet and chat. I was so excited to meet Moose, he sounded like such an amazing dog, one I would fall in love with as well.

When I arrived at Emily’s house, Moose met me at the door. He burrowed his head right into my lap and, yep, I was in love right away. He was so affectionate and looked up at me with those big, beautiful eyes. Ah, how could this dog not have had a loving home all along? He was a pure sweetheart.

I also met Emily’s husband Jake. The both of them were so kind and invited me into their home. They showed me Moose’s bed and his stuffed Moose toy (which I loved!). And they still have the receipt from Moose’s adoption from the Nashville Humane Association hanging on their refrigerator.

I then sat down with Emily and Jake, and they both shared their incredible story about Moose: how Emily found him at NHA, finding out about Moose’s heartworms and how both she and Jake got Covid right after they found Moose (poor Emily and Jake! Luckily, they are fine now). Watch Moose’s story and my interview with Emily and Jake here.

After I spoke with Emily and Jake, we all went for a walk around their yard. Moose LOVED being outside! He walked around, and Emily and Jake made sure Moose didn’t get too much exercise since he was still getting heartworm treatments at that time.

After our walk, it was time to say goodbye. It was hard, Moose became my new dog crush. I didn’t want to leave him, but I don’t think Emily and Jake would let me take him home, haha.

What a great day that was! Thank you Emily and Jake for inviting me into your home, for sharing Moose’s story and letting me meet your sweet boy. I know Moose is in great hands, and that the new year will bring you all an abundance of happiness, joy and lots of love.
