A dog who survived frigid temperatures for four days on river is adopted by the man who rescued him.

This is a story that could have ended terribly, but instead concluded with a sweet dog finding his forever home. Back in February of this year, a puppy (who was 12-18 months old at the time) got stuck on the ice-filled Detroit River, probably after he was chased by a coyote. The pooch spent the next four days in the cold, as local citizens tried to rescue him. Jude Mead and his team from J&J Marine were finally able to get the puppy by using an airboat, which the chemical company BASF Corp. let them use. The dog, named Alfonso by his rescuers, was quickly taken to Woodhaven Animal Hospital in Michigan for treatment.

Alfonso had frostbite on his paw pads and scrotum, while also suffering from dehydration and pancreatitis. Poor baby!

Luckily, Alfonso’s condition improved at the hospital. It was truly a miracle, so he was given a new name, Miracle!

Miracle wasn’t microchipped when he was found, nor did he have a collar or tag on, so he was put up for adoption by Friends of the River Rouge Animal Shelter. After a very thorough adoption process, the shelter decided Jude would be the best owner, the hero who saved the pup’s life!

Friends of the River Rouge Animal Shelter shared on Facebook that Miracle now lives in Canada with his new family. What a great ending! Best of luck Miracle, Jude and family. I know great times are ahead for all of you.
