Celebrating Your Dog’s Birthday

Bring your party hat and grab a slice of cake, it’s time to celebrate Mikey’s birthday!

Yesterday (March 10th) was Mikey’s birthday and I wanted to do something special for the little guy. He’s such a big part of my life and I didn’t want the day to go by without giving him some extra love. There wasn’t a whole lot of time to plan a big birthday party, but I didn’t want to do nothing either. I made some phone calls to local dog shops to see what they had in stock on such short notice. Of course most places needed time to bake a birthday cake or order certain products, so it’s best to plan a dog party at least a few weeks in advance, if you can. Luckily, I was able to find a few stores that gave me just what I needed for the special day.

1) Birthday Cake

It isn’t a real birthday party without a cake, right? I wanted something that looked appealing but more importantly, tasted great to Mikey. I love Three Dog Bakery and have gone there before for dog treats. When I called them, they told me they had fresh cakes in stock and could write Mikey’s name on one when I arrived. Perfect! When I got there, they were so helpful and let me pick out a cake from their display counter. They even wrote Mikey’s name on it in front of me, which was pretty cool to watch.

While I was at Three Dog Bakery, I looked around the store and found some other birthday products that were perfect for Mikey’s birthday.

2) Birthday Hat

I know most dogs don’t like wearing hats, but this one was just too cute to pass up. I know Mikey wore clothes with his past owner, so I had to try and see if Mikey would let me place this on his head (which he did!).

3) Birthday Toys
What’s a birthday without a gift? I found two great plush birthday toys on my travels: a “Party!” dog bone at Three Dog Bakery and a big slice of birthday cake at Baxter Bailey & Company.

4) Birthday Treats

Of course there would be birthday cake at the end of the party, but I know Mikey would want to eat something beforehand. Baxter Bailey & Company had some wonderful, colorful pupcakes which were perfect for the celebration.

5) Birthday Banner

Baxter Bailey & Company, a great dog shop here in Nashville, actually has a celebration station in their store. As I was looking around, I noticed a bunch of birthday banners which I thought would add a special touch to the festivities. It was hard to pick just one, but I think I made the perfect choice.

Happy Birthday Mikey!

6) Birthday Napkins

I knew after treats and cake, there would be some crumbs on the floor to clean up. These “Bow Wow” napkins from Baxter Bailey & Company would definitely do the trick.

I couldn’t resist these napkins

With everything bought, it was time to start the celebration. Of course a party isn’t a party without Ricky, who wouldn’t miss the chance to wish Mikey a Happy Birthday. Oh and eat some cake too, haha. Mikey and Ricky both loved the birthday treats and enjoyed playing with the birthday toys.

After some playing, it was finally time for cake. I have to say, Three Dog Bakery did a great job with the birthday cake. It looked so beautiful when the candles were lit. And the dogs loved it! They could have eaten the whole thing if I let them.

Mikey really enjoyed the day and I couldn’t have been happier. I love that dog and I’m happy he felt the love he’s given me all these years. I have to admit, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to pull off the party in such short notice. But after a few phone calls and some quick trips to local dog stores, I was able to get some great products and give Mikey a great birthday celebration. Happy Birthday Mikey and here’s to many more to come!
